Comment on noteThe wine
Imagine for a moment Tuscany, its gentle hills bathed in sunshine, and at the heart of this landscape, a wine that embodies all this beauty. This is what I invite you to discover with this Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2016 from the La Serena estate, a true gem that whispers stories of terroir and passion.
This wine was born in Montalcino, a blessed land in Tuscany, renowned worldwide for its Brunellos. The La Serena estate, active since 1993, cultivates Sangiovese Grosso there with devotion, the unique and emblematic grape variety of this DOCG appellation. Each bunch is hand-picked in October, after rigorous selection, to guarantee impeccable quality.
The vinification of this Brunello is an art. The traditional fermentation takes place in truncated-cone steel tanks, where the wine also matures. A long maceration and malolactic fermentation are carried out there, before aging of at least 36 months in these same containers. The Brunello Riserva is subject to a minimum aging of 5 years, including 2 in wood, which gives it remarkable depth and complexity. On tasting, it displays an intense and luminous ruby red color. On the nose, you will be charmed by an ample and persistent bouquet, where notes of red fruits, cherry in brandy and dried tobacco mingle with sweet spices. On the palate, the tannins are long and velvety, supported by a crisp acidity that promises excellent aging potential. The finish is juicy, sapid and mineral, inviting the next sip.
This Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2016 from La Serena is a wine of character that calls for food and wine pairings worthy of it. I recommend it with grilled red meats, flavorful roasts or game. It will also elevate a platter of aged cheeses, where its spicy and fruity notes will find a perfect echo. Serve it between 15 and 18°C in a large balloon glass to appreciate all its nuances. It is a wine to be enjoyed both at a festive meal and alone, for a moment of pure contemplation. It is excellent right now, but you can also let it age 10 to 15 years for an even richer experience.
