Comment on noteThe wine
Today I invite you to explore a lesser-known but equally captivating facet of Tuscan wine country. Let me guide you toward a red wine that, through its authenticity and character, tells a story of terroir and passion: the Sentiero del Fante IGT from the Ventolaio estate.
This wine was born in the emblematic region of Montalcino, land of great crus, where Sangiovese reigns supreme. The Ventolaio estate, with its Sentiero del Fante IGT, offers an elegant interpretation of this king of grape varieties. The vines thrive on clay soils, enriched with a good proportion of limestone, which gives the wine a solid structure and a distinctive minerality.
The Sentiero del Fante 2023 is mainly made from this single grape variety, Sangiovese. Vinification takes place in the traditional way, in stainless steel tanks, where the temperature is rigorously controlled to preserve the freshness and fruity aromas of the grapes. After this stage, a maceration on the skins enriches the wine. Its ageing continues for about six months in 5-hectoliter Slavonian oak casks, a period that refines its bouquet and harmonizes its tannins, acidity and alcohol.
Visually, this wine displays a deep ruby red color, streaked with purplish highlights, a promise of its richness. On the nose, you will discover intense notes of ripe red fruits, such as cherry and raspberry, married with soft spices, a subtle touch of vanilla and a hint of leather. On the palate, the Sentiero del Fante reveals itself as robust and harmonious, with a well-integrated structure. The finish is persistent, leaving sensations of dried fruits and sweet tobacco, inviting contemplation.
This wine is an ideal companion for the generous flavors of Tuscan cuisine. Imagine it alongside a good roast, an authentic bistecca alla fiorentina, or even with aged cheeses. It is also perfect for a tasting evening, where its complexity will invite you to reflect. I recommend serving it at a temperature of 18-20°C to appreciate all its nuances. The Sentiero del Fante IGT from Ventolaio is an invitation to discover the essence of Tuscan viticulture, through a wine of character and refinement.
