Comment on noteThe wine
Imagine yourself in the heart of Tuscany, where the sun caresses the hills of Montalcino. This Brunello, from the Pieve Santa Restituta estate of the Gaja family, is an invitation to a sensory journey, an authentic expression of an exceptional terroir.
The Pieve Santa Restituta estate, whose name evokes the ancient church at its center, was acquired by the Gaja family in 1994. Its vineyards enjoy a privileged location in Montalcino, where a ventilated and dry microclimate prevents excessive humidity, ensuring optimal ripening of the grapes. I was fascinated by the vine rehabilitation work, aimed at preserving the oldest vines and enriching the subsoil through compost production.
This Brunello is the fruit of a blend of the estate's best vineyards. Each plot ferments and macerates separately for about three weeks in steel tanks. After 24 months of aging in wood, the wines are blended and then refined for six additional months in cement vats. The single grape variety is Sangiovese Grosso. In the glass, it presents with an intense ruby color. On the nose, I perceive a broad and precise bouquet, with notes of juniper, aromatic herbs, delicate floral touches, and a dominant note of cherry. On the palate, it reveals a rich structure, perfectly balanced acidity, and ripe tannins. The finish is long, persistent, and deeply satisfying, confirming the quality and uniqueness of this wine.
To accompany this Brunello, I recommend classic and flavorful pairings: roasted red meats, game, or aged cheeses. It will also pair wonderfully with grilled or braised meat. But beyond meals, this wine is a true invitation to meditation. I invite you to taste it without haste, in good company, or to savor it quietly with a good book for an evening of pure relaxation. It is a wine that fully reveals itself between 16 and 18°C, in a large balloon glass, and can be kept for another 5 to 7 years for those who enjoy evolving wines.
