Comment on noteThe wine
I invite you to discover a wine that whispers the history and passion of Tuscany, a true expression of its terroir. This Brunello di Montalcino from the Pieve Santa Restituta Gaja estate is an encounter with elegance and depth, a sensory journey to the heart of authentic Tuscany.
The Pieve Santa Restituta estate, acquired by the Gaja family in 1994, takes its name from the ancient Pieve located at its center. Its vineyards, nestled in the Montalcino region of Tuscany, enjoy a privileged position. An airy and dry microclimate prevails there, preventing humidity from stagnating and promoting optimal ripening of the grapes. The Gaja family undertook major work to rehabilitate the vines, aiming to preserve the plant heritage and care for the subsoil through compost production. This Brunello is the joint expression of all the estate's vineyards, made exclusively from Sangiovese Grosso.
Each plot ferments and macerates separately for about three weeks. After 24 months of aging in wood, the wines are blended, then undergo an additional 6 months of refinement in cement tanks. To the eye, you will discover an intense ruby color. On the nose, this 2015 vintage offers an ample and defined bouquet, with notes of juniper, aromatic herbs, floral scents and cherry. On the palate, it presents a rich structure, balanced acidity and ripe tannins, culminating in a long, persistent and fully satisfying finish.
This Brunello di Montalcino is an ideal companion for arrosti, selvaggina (game), grilled meat and meat in sauce. Imagine it with a dish of stewed wild boar or a good piece of Tuscan beef. It is also an excellent meditation wine, to be savored unhurried, in good company or with a good book for a relaxing evening. I recommend serving it between 16 and 18°C in a balloon glass to appreciate all its nuances. This wine is good to drink now, but it also has an aging potential of 5 to 7 years, allowing you to rediscover it over time.
