Tarquinia, an Etruscan town listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its painted necropolises, offers a dining scene rooted in the tradition of the northern Latium coast — a historic and culinary border with the Tuscan Maremma. Fish from the nearby Tyrrhenian coast, terroir dishes inspired by local peasant cuisine, and a few establishments working with recipes of claimed Etruscan inspiration (more anecdotal than rigorously documented, but fun to try).
Tarquinia is ideally visited by combining the Etruscan necropolises in the morning with lunch or dinner in the medieval historic center, just a few minutes' walk from the main archaeological sites.
