Comment on noteThe wine
Imagine yourself in the heart of Tuscany, where the history of wine is written with passion. This Brunello di Montalcino from Biondi Santi is an encounter with heritage, an invitation to explore the depth of an exceptional terroir.
Let me take you to Montalcino, to the lands where Clemente Santi and his grandson Ferruccio Biondi Santi had, at the beginning of the 20th century, the vision of vinifying Sangiovese Grosso in purity. It is here, in this rolling landscape, that the Biondi Santi estate was born, inaugurating in 1888 the first year of Brunello production. This wine is the fruit of a meticulous selection of grapes, hand-picked in the estate's vineyards, perpetuating a tradition of excellence and craftsmanship.
The 2017 vintage, from a hot and dry summer, with high temperatures from May to August, allowed for optimal ripening of the grapes. This Brunello is the result of fermentation in steel tanks, followed by a long maceration. It then benefits from aging of at least five years, two of which in wood, to refine its aromas and structure. To the eye, you will discover an intense garnet red color. On the nose, I perceive aromas of red fruits, notably cherry, mingled with spicy and balsamic notes, sometimes even a hint of leather. On the palate, this wine reveals a harmonious structure, with velvety tannins and a freshness characteristic of Sangiovese Grosso.
To accompany this Brunello di Montalcino, I suggest you turn to dishes that can converse with its complexity. Imagine it alongside grilled red meats, a simmered game dish or a flavorful roast. Aged cheeses, with their assertive character, will also be perfect companions. This is a wine that invites contemplation, to be enjoyed on a special occasion, to celebrate a precious moment or simply to treat yourself to a moment of refinement. Let yourself be carried away by this experience, a true immersion into the soul of Tuscany.
