CastelGiocondo 2019 Brunello: The soul of Montalcino

Imagine yourself in the heart of Tuscany, where history and the vine intertwine. This Brunello di Montalcino 2019 from Frescobaldi is a dive into authenticity, a promise of a sensory journey within an exceptional terroir.

The cradle of Sangiovese Grosso

I'll take you to Montalcino, on the lands of the Tenuta CastelGiocondo, an ancient 12th-century fortress that watches over the vineyards. It was here, in the 19th century, that Frescobaldi was one of the pioneers to craft Brunello. The vines flourish between 300 and 400 metres in altitude, on well-drained soils, bathed by the south-western sun. The king grape variety, Sangiovese Grosso, finds an ideal setting there to express all its grandeur. The cultivation is meticulous, with high density and low yields, guaranteeing remarkable concentration and quality.

This 2019 Brunello reveals itself in a deep, almost dark ruby red robe that invites discovery. On the nose, you will be charmed by warm, mineral fruity notes, where aromas of black fruits and nuts stand out. On the palate, it reveals silky tannins and a flavourful, full-bodied finish. The flavours of ripe fruits dominate, accompanied by savoury nuances that give it an exquisite succulence. This is a wine that benefited from fermentation in steel tanks with a long maceration, followed by ageing of at least five years, giving it admirable elegance and longevity.

A refined table companion

For me, this Brunello is a true gastronomic chameleon, capable of accompanying an entire meal. However, it reveals all its splendour alongside more robust dishes. I particularly recommend it with braised red meats, a beef fillet or game. It will also be a perfect match with aged cheeses, where its structure and complex aromas will enhance the flavours. It is a wine to enjoy on great occasions, or simply to treat yourself to a moment of escape and pleasure, an invitation to conviviality and sharing, a true piece of Tuscany in your glass.
