Eating on a budget in Tuscan Maremma doesn't mean sacrificing quality: family trattorias, wood-fired pizzerias and small village eateries often offer authentic cuisine at very reasonable prices, especially away from the most touristy areas (Argentario, Capalbio in summer). A plate of homemade fresh pasta or a well-executed Neapolitan pizza rarely costs more than €10-12 in this range.
To maximize value for money: opt for the daily menu (menu del giorno) offered at lunch by many local trattorias, avoid beachfront places in the height of summer (inflated prices), and don't hesitate to go a few kilometers away from the busiest areas — quality doesn't drop, prices do.
