Comment on noteThe wine
I invite you to discover a gem, a wine that embodies the elegance and depth of Tuscany. Imagine a bottle that tells you a story, that of a terroir and preserved craftsmanship.
This Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG «Le Due Sorelle» comes from Tenuta La Fuga, an estate dear to the Folonari house, nestled southwest of Montalcino, in the Camigliano region. It is here, on these blessed lands, that Sangiovese, the sole grape variety of this cuvée, draws its strength and character. The 2018 vintage, in particular, was crafted with meticulous attention, from vineyard to cellar.
At first glance, its robe envelops you in intense hues, a promise of beautiful concentration. On the nose, you will be charmed by a complex and precise bouquet: ripe red fruits, wafts of violet, and a delicate symphony of spices, tobacco and leather. On the palate, this wine reveals an imposing structure, finely chiselled tannins and perfectly balanced acidity that extends the pleasure through to a long, harmonious finish. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks, followed by 20 to 28 days of maceration. Ageing is an art here, with a minimum of 48 months in large casks, then 12 months of refinement to perfect its balance.
To elevate this Brunello Riserva, I suggest pairing it with dishes that can converse with its richness. Think red meats, slow-cooked dishes, or aged cheeses. I have a particular fondness for the pairing with a pecorino toscano al tartufo, or a mostarda di zucca, which reveals unsuspected facets of the wine. It is the ideal companion for a special dinner, an intimate celebration, or simply to treat yourself to a moment of pure contemplation. Remember to open it a little in advance, and why not, let it breathe briefly before serving so that it unfolds all its splendour.
