Comment on noteThe wine
Today I'm taking you to the heart of Tuscany, where tradition and innovation meet to give birth to exceptional wines. The Toscana Rosso IGT from Madonna Nera is one of those discoveries that leaves a lasting impression, a Supertuscan that embodies the elegance and depth of its terroir.
It is in Montalcino, land of illustrious wines, that the Madonna Nera estate crafts this Toscana Rosso IGT. This wine is the fruit of a bold and harmonious blend: 60% Sangiovese, the king of grape varieties in the region, is complemented by 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. This combination of local and international grape varieties, typical of "Supertuscans", reflects a desire to combine Tuscan character with a more contemporary structure.
The 2023 vintage presents itself with an intense color. On the nose, you will be charmed by a rich and enveloping bouquet, where ripe red fruits dominate, nuanced by spicy scents and a distinctive minerality. I also detect notes of plum jam. On the palate, this wine offers remarkable balance, with velvety tannins that caress the palate and a pleasant persistence. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at 28°C, followed by 25 days of maceration and malolactic fermentation. Aging then takes place in 5-hectoliter French oak barrels, first and second passage, for about 12 months, which gives it its complexity and structure.
This Supertuscan is an ideal companion for convivial meals. I particularly recommend it with robust dishes: think of carni rosse, those grilled red meats that will enhance its aromas, or formaggi stagionati, aged cheeses whose richness will match the complexity of the wine. It's the kind of wine I love to share during an evening with friends, for an intense and refined sensory experience that will transport you straight to the heart of Tuscany.
