Comment on noteThe wine
Let me guide you to a gem, a wine that whispers the history of Tuscany. This Brunello di Montalcino 2003 from Tenuta la Fuga – Folonari is an invitation to patience, a promise of discovery for those who know how to wait for it. It is not one of those that reveal themselves at first glance, but generously rewards the attention given to it.
Nestled to the southwest of Montalcino, the Tenuta la Fuga estate, under the aegis of Folonari, cultivates Sangiovese in purity. It is from this land, bathed in Tuscan sunshine, that this wine is born. Vinification takes place in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28°C, with maceration of about 20 days, allowing the grapes to express their full richness.
After this first stage, the wine embarks on a long four-year maturation journey, including at least 24 months in Slavonian oak barrels. It is there that it acquires its complexity and structure, refining its tannins and developing its aromatic palette. The 2003 vintage, with its years of bottle aging, now presents itself with remarkable balance and depth. On the nose, I perceive complex aromas of ripe fruit, deep earthy notes and hints of sweet spices. On the palate, it reveals itself as enveloping, its tannins are perfectly integrated and its persistence is measured, inviting contemplation.
This Brunello di Montalcino 2003 is a wine that calls for the table, but not just any table. It pairs wonderfully with dishes of Tuscan tradition, well-structured red meats, game and aged cheeses. I suggest you try it with an "anatra in porchetta con semi di finocchio selvatico", a duck stuffed with wild fennel seeds, for an unforgettable tasting experience. To appreciate all its nuances, I advise you to open it a few hours in advance, so that it can express itself fully. This wine is an invitation to slow down, to savor the moment, a true ode to the Tuscan art of living.
