Comment on noteThe wine
Imagine for a moment the sea breeze caressing the vines, the Tuscan sun brimming with light. This Bolgheri Rosso "Volpolo" from Podere Sapaio is not just a wine, it is an invitation to a sensory journey into the heart of this exceptional land that I love so much.
We are in Bolgheri, an appellation that, in barely twenty years, has managed to establish itself as a world reference. Podere Sapaio, a relatively young but already acclaimed estate, grows its vines there with passion. For this 2022 vintage, the "Volpolo" is a bold and harmonious blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 15% Petit Verdot, grape varieties that find a unique expression here thanks to this very special terroir.
From the moment you pour it, its classic ruby color evokes sunsets over the Mediterranean. On the nose, it is an explosion of small woodland fruits: blueberry, juicy cherry, delicate raspberry and fleshy plum mingle with an elegantly spicy finish that tickles the senses. On the palate, it reveals a generous, ample and envelopping body. You will discover sapid notes and a beautiful freshness that balance the whole, making each sip a pure delight. Its vinification, with a long maceration on the skins in steel tanks, followed by fourteen months of aging in French barriques and tonneaux, gives it this structure and complexity.
This Bolgheri Rosso "Volpolo" is an ideal companion for moments of sharing and conviviality. I warmly recommend it with grilled red meats, game simmered with garrigue herbs, or even with a platter of aged cheeses that will reveal all its nuances. It is the perfect wine for an evening with friends, a romantic dinner, or simply to treat yourself, transporting you, for the time of a glass, under the Tuscan sun.
