Comment on noteOur opinion
Ghigo Al Mare is one of those places that surprises you. Not a tourist trap with checkered tablecloths, but an "ottima scoperta" as the locals say, a truly good find for anyone looking for Maremma on the plate.
Here, you eat Mediterranean food, but with a Maremma accent. The establishment presents itself as a "Bar • Pasticceria • Osteria Tipica Maremmana", and that's a guarantee. You won't find chef's cuisine, but solid basics. Customers often report the "Gran misto di Ghigo x2", which must be a great introduction to taste a bit of everything. The "Crostini toscani con patè di fegatino di pollo" is an enduring classic, a real test for a Tuscan kitchen, and the "Parmigiana di melanzane" will give you an idea of their mastery of southern dishes, even though we're in Tuscany. It's simple cuisine, without frills, the kind you eat at home.
As for the setting, don't expect panoramic views or a magazine-style decor. The sources are silent on this point, which means the atmosphere isn't the main selling point. That's often a good sign: when they're not selling you hot air, it's because the food speaks for itself. It's a bistro, a place where you come to eat without pretension, for the taste and the authenticity.
If you're looking for a place where the average price is around €21 and where you can eat honest Mediterranean cuisine, without the artifices of restaurants that try too hard, then Ghigo Al Mare is for you. It's the kind of place where you feel good because you know you're eating real food, without being taken for a fool. A well-loved discovery, that's what counts.
