Comment on noteThe wine
Imagine yourself in the heart of Tuscany, where the hills roll on endlessly. It is from this iconic landscape that the Rosso Orcia DOC from the La Nascosta estate is born, a wine that, I assure you, captures the very essence of this land.
This wine is a true expression of Val d'Orcia, a region whose beauty is recognized worldwide. The La Nascosta estate cultivates its vines there with palpable passion, giving life to this Rosso Orcia DOC. It is mainly made from Sangiovese, at 90%, complemented by 10% Merlot, offering a perfect harmony between tradition and a touch of modernity. The 2018 vintage that I had the pleasure of discovering bears witness to this alliance.
At first glance, its intense ruby red color catches your eye. On the nose, you will discover a complex and enveloping bouquet: notes of cherry and blackberry, ripe red fruits, mingle with spicy nuances of black pepper and clove. Earthy and undergrowth sensations complete this aromatic profile, giving it remarkable depth. On the palate, this Rosso Orcia DOC Saltamacchia stands out for its solid and balanced structure. The tannins are soft and well integrated, offering a very pleasant velvety sensation. The taste is intense and persistent, with reminders of red fruits, spices and a slight balsamic note that brings beautiful freshness. Its well-balanced acidity guarantees a liveliness that makes it very versatile. Its vinification includes fermentation in steel for 2 to 3 weeks, followed by maceration for 15 to 25 days, then aging for 12 to 16 months in 500-liter tonneaux, and finally 6 months in bottle.
This wine is an ideal companion for traditional Tuscan dishes. I particularly recommend it with red meats, such as pappardelle al cinghiale or roasts, and it pairs wonderfully with aged cheeses. It is an invitation to extend the pleasure of the table, to share an authentic moment, as if you were yourself sitting at a table in Tuscany.
