Comment on noteThe wine
Imagine for a moment Tuscany, not the one of saturated postcards, but a more secret Tuscany, where nature reigns supreme. It is there, on the slopes of Monte Amiata, that I discovered a wine that captures the very essence of this land: the Sangiovese VdiF from I Chiostri. It embodies an authenticity you will find nowhere else, a refined simplicity that seduces me with every sip.
The Val d'Orcia, listed as a World Heritage site, is often associated with gentle, rolling landscapes. But I'm taking you a little higher, to Piancastagnaio, on the flanks of Monte Amiata. It is in this setting, where the altitude and microclimate give the vines a unique typicity, that the I Chiostri estate cultivates its Sangiovese. This grape variety, emblematic of Tuscany, finds a particularly direct and frank expression there, far from artifice, faithful to its mountain roots.
When you pour this Sangiovese VdiF, you are greeted by a medium ruby color, crossed with bright highlights, like a sunset over the hills. On the nose, I immediately perceive aromas of cherry and small red fruits, frank and inviting. Light floral notes and a touch of delicate spices complete this bouquet, without ever weighing it down. On the palate, it reveals a slender body, with tannins that are present but perfectly integrated, offering a pleasant texture. The freshness is there, lively, and supports the whole, making this wine incredibly easy to drink. This is a wine that does not seek complexity at all costs, but offers immediate and sincere expressiveness, a true tasting pleasure.
This Sangiovese VdiF is remarkably versatile, making it a choice ally for many occasions. I recommend it with traditional Italian dishes, such as pasta with tomato-based sauces, where its acidity will balance the richness of the dish. It will also be perfect with grilled white meats or semi-hard cheeses, whose flavors it will enhance without overpowering. Feel free to serve it also with rustic antipasti or flavorful vegetables. To appreciate all its nuances, I advise you to serve it between 16 and 18 °C and to open it just before tasting. It is an honest wine, the kind we love to share, a true nod to Tuscan conviviality. It invites you to savor the present moment, without fuss, just with the pleasure of a good wine.
