Comment on noteThe wine
Imagine yourself, in the heart of Tuscany, where history blends with the vine. This Chianti Classico Gran Selezione from the Castello di Brolio is an invitation to a sensory journey, a promise of elegance and depth that I can't wait to introduce you to.
The Ricasoli estate, rooted in Gaiole in Chianti, is much more than a producer; it is an institution. Their vineyards, located around the majestic Castello di Brolio, benefit from an exceptional terroir. This wine is the pure expression of Sangiovese, the region's king grape, grown and vinified with a precision bordering on art. The 2022 vintage that I had the pleasure of tasting is a perfect example of this mastery.
The colour of this wine is a deep garnet red, inviting contemplation. On the nose, you will be charmed by complex and measured aromas: I distinctly perceive cherry and ripe strawberry, enhanced by a subtle hint of vanilla that brings a touch of sweetness. On the palate, the tannic structure is remarkably defined, offering an elegant structure without ever being aggressive. The balance between power and freshness is remarkable, and the persistence on the finish will entice you to come back to it. The fermentation takes place in steel tanks at a controlled temperature between 24 and 27°C, with a maceration of 14 to 16 days. Then, the wine ages for 22 months in tonneaux, then refines for 8 additional months in bottle, which gives it this complexity and harmony.
This Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is a wine that calls for good food and conviviality. It will pair wonderfully with red meat dishes, whether a roast beef or a slow-cooked cacciagione. Aged cheeses will also find in it a choice ally, capable of enhancing their flavours. But don't limit yourself: it will also accompany more savoury and seasoned preparations, bringing its structure and freshness. To appreciate all its nuances, I recommend serving it at a temperate temperature, in a large glass that will allow its aromas to fully blossom. It is a wine that, although already expressive, has great ageing potential if you wish to let it evolve for a few years in the cellar.
