Comment on noteThe wine
Imagine yourself for a moment, in the heart of Tuscany, where time seems to suspend its flight. This Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva 2001 from Folonari is an invitation to a sensory journey, a bottle that whispers stories of terroir and patience. It does not reveal itself at first glance, but rewards those who know how to wait for it.
We are in Montepulciano, a blessed land for viticulture, where the Prugnolo Gentile grape variety, a local strain of Sangiovese, reigns supreme. The Folonari estate, through its TorCalvano line, signs here a pure expression of this emblematic grape. This wine is the fruit of meticulous fermentation at 28°C in steel tanks, followed by a prolonged maceration of at least 20 days, allowing a deep extraction of aromas and colors.
The color of this 2001 vintage, though discreet, reveals balance and maturity. On the nose, you will discover delicate and floral aromas, marked by a certain evolution, that invite contemplation. On the palate, it offers a body and roundness suited to its age, with hints of ripe fruit and subtle tertiary accents. The finish is velvety, tannic and with beautiful persistence, showing a perfectly integrated tannic structure, the result of careful aging. It spent 24 months in wood, then 12 additional months in bottle, for a total aging of at least 36 months.
This Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva is an ideal companion for dishes with character. I recommend it with a scamerita di maiale con cime di rapa all'aglio, a dish that will echo its structure. It also pairs wonderfully with aged cheeses, where its evolved notes will find a worthy partner. To appreciate all its nuances, serve it at a moderate temperature, between 16 and 18 °C. It is a bottle to be enjoyed on a special occasion, perhaps to celebrate a special event, or simply to treat yourself to a Tuscan interlude, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. All you need to do is store it in a cool, stable place, away from light, so it can continue to guard its secrets.
