Comment on noteThe wine
I invite you today to explore a wine that whispers the history of Tuscany, an authentic expression of its terroir. The Torcalvano Rosso di Montepulciano from Folonari is an encounter with elegance and tradition, a bottle that promises you a sensory journey to the heart of Italy.
We are in Montepulciano, a prestigious appellation where generous soils give birth to wines of remarkable structure. The Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari estate, strong in its heritage, cultivates Prugnolo Gentile there, that emblematic grape variety which is none other than the local Sangiovese. The 2022 vintage of this Rosso di Montepulciano is the fruit of fermentation in steel tanks, followed by careful maceration on the skins, a method that preserves the purity of the fruit.
This wine reveals itself to you in a deep ruby red robe, announcing an intense tasting. On the nose, I perceive a complex bouquet where ripe red fruits, such as cherry and plum, mingle with spicy notes of black pepper. The 6 to 12 months of aging, partly in barriques, brings a subtle vanilla touch and rounds out its structure. On the palate, the balance is remarkable between a vivifying acidity and well-integrated tannins. The fruity sensations are confirmed, accompanied by a delicate balsamic note that prolongs the pleasure in the finish.
This Torcalvano is an ideal companion for the table. Imagine it alongside grilled red meats, a selection of Tuscan cured meats or aged cheeses. It pairs wonderfully with traditional dishes such as peposo dell'Impruneta or a bistecca alla fiorentina. I recommend serving it between 18 and 20°C to appreciate all its nuances. It is an invitation to share a moment of conviviality, to celebrate the richness of Tuscan cuisine with a wine that is its worthy ambassador.
