Picture yourself, in the heart of Tuscany, where the hills roll under a generous sun. This is where I discovered a wine that, from the very first sip, transported me: Avignonesi's Nobile di Montepulciano 2021. It embodies that rustic elegance, that discreet depth that I love so much.
Montepulciano, that hilltop town, is the birthplace of the Nobile, a wine whose history is intertwined with that of Tuscany. The Avignonesi estate, with its deep roots in this terroir, grows Sangiovese, here called Prugnolo Gentile. This unique grape variety is the soul of the Nobile, and it finds in the region's soils the purest expression of its character. It is a wine that tells a story, that of a land and ancestral know-how.
Avignonesi's Nobile 2021 reveals itself in an intense red robe, a promise of beautiful concentration. On the nose, you will be charmed by aromas of ripe red fruits and plum, delicately interwoven with notes of violet. A subtle touch of tobacco and sweet spices, with a light toasted woody note, adds to its complexity without ever weighing it down. On the palate, it offers a medium-full body, supported by silky tannins and a lively acidity that gives it beautiful freshness. Sapidness is present, prolonging the pleasure with fruity reminiscences and an elegant earthy vein. This wine is the result of fermentation in steel tanks and a long maceration, followed by aging of at least 24 months, guaranteeing its structure and finesse.
This Nobile di Montepulciano is an invitation to conviviality. I warmly recommend it with grilled red meats, a braised game dish or aged cheeses that will reveal all its nuances. Serve it at around 16-18°C, after brief decanting, so that it can fully express itself. It is a wine that already has much to offer, but which also promises a beautiful evolution in the bottle, softening its tannins and developing new notes over time. A true gem to share or to keep preciously for a special occasion.
