What is the Maremma in German?

En allemand, la Maremma is generally said die Maremma : the name of the territory is not translated. So you can write Ich fahre in die Maremma, that is, "I am going to the Maremma". You will also come across the German form die Maremmen, mais elle est moins utile dans une conversation de voyage.

The word designates a region in west-central Italy, especially associated with the south of Tuscany and the province of Grosseto. Depending on the definition used, the Maremma may also encompass neighboring areas and extend into the north of Lazio ; its boundaries therefore do not exactly match those of a province. In German, if you want to clarify the meaning rather than simply keep the proper name, you can say die Küstenlandschaft der südlichen Toskana (« le paysage côtier du sud de la Toscane »).
