Where to eat authentically in Grosseto?

To taste authentic Maremma cuisine in Grosseto, try the Trattoria Il Giogo, in the historic center, via Cesare Battisti 31. Ask for the tortelli maremmani, the pici or a slow-cooked dish like peposo or wild boar, depending on the daily menu. Portions are often generous: plan for around 20 to 30 € per person depending on what you order. Book, especially in the evening; this is not the place to count on a free table at the last minute.

If you have a car and feel like getting out of the center, Gli Attortellati, provincial road 40 della Trappola, focuses more on homemade food: tortelli prepared on site, seasonal vegetables and farm products. The menu changes and some meals are offered as a set formula, around 40 à 50 € ; check the menu and book before leaving. To choose, remember above all that the first one is a trattoria in town, while the second requires a drive and a longer meal. In both cases, ask what is being prepared that day: Maremma cuisine varies with the season.

A little tip: don't set off with a menu set in stone; leave room for surprise, Maremma loves to foil overly rigid plans.
