Hidden Tuscany Rating
A Toscana IGT 2020 from Il Borro, in Valdarno, blending Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, aged 18 months in barriques and awarded three bicchieri. Its main drawback: a generic IGT at €40.44, without a clearly described terroir anchor.
IGT Toscana without a named sub-zone, a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah with no described link to Valdarno: an international style with little local grounding.
Three bicchieri, three stelle Veronelli, four viti AIS, James Suckling 90, Robert Parker 90 and Wine Spectator 90: numerous and named accolades.
At €40.44 instead of €49.88, the price remains high for an IGT without a riserva mention, despite the accolades displayed.
Precise pairings (red meats, aged cheeses), a profile of red fruits, spices and balsamic notes, serving at 16-18 °C: a coherent and easy-to-serve whole.
Il Borro named and located in Valdarno, fermentation in steel tanks, 22-day maceration and 18 months in French oak barriques: detailed practices.

Comment on noteThe wine
Imagine for a moment Tuscany, not the one from postcards, but the more secret one, where the land whispers its history. This wine is an invitation to that intimate journey, an authentic expression of Valdarno that will surprise you with its depth and elegance.
It is in the heart of Valdarno, within the Il Borro estate, property of the Ferragamo family, that this Toscana IGT Rosso takes root. Here, the biodynamic and sustainable approach is not an empty phrase, but a philosophy that shapes every cluster. This 2020 vintage is the fruit of a harmonious blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, grape varieties that have found a perfect balance in this terroir.
From the very first glance, its deep ruby red color envelops you. On the nose, I perceive intense notes of ripe red fruits, such as cherry and blackberry, enhanced by nuances of sweet spices. Then, a light veil of vanilla and chocolate unfolds, subtly brought by 18 months of aging in French oak barriques. On the palate, this wine offers a full and harmonious body. Its tannins are well structured, and a pleasant freshness balances its aromatic richness. The fermentation in steel tanks, followed by a 22-day maceration, allowed the extraction of the very quintessence of the grapes, for a persistent and elegant finish.
This Toscana IGT Rosso is the ideal companion for your meals. I particularly recommend it with roasted or braised red meats, which will match its structure. It will also pair wonderfully with aged cheeses, where its spicy and fruity notes can fully express themselves. It is a wine that will enrich your moments of sharing, bringing a touch of class and conviviality to your special occasions.
