Comment on noteThe wine
Imagine for a moment a white wine that has traversed the decades, not to fade away, but to transform itself, to grow more complex. That is exactly what you will find with this La Pietra Chardonnay 1987, a bottle that whispers stories of Tuscany and patience.
This wine was born on the lands of Folonari, within the Vigneti Tenute del Cabreo, more precisely between Casa di Sala in Panzano and Zano, in the heart of Tuscany. It is a region where the winemaking tradition is deeply rooted, and where the Chardonnay grape, although international, has found a singular Tuscan expression. This 1987 vintage is a pure Chardonnay, a witness to an era and a craft.
In your glass, you will discover an antique gold color, sprinkled with amber highlights, a hue that already tells its age. On the nose, notes of chamomile, dried tea and honey intertwine with sage and medicinal herbs, complemented by a hint of scorza di limone and a toasted touch. You will also perceive aromas of ripe fruits, peach and baked apple, subtly supported by a light vanilla and hazelnut. On the palate, the wine reveals itself as soft, its acidity has mellowed over time, giving way to a very discreet tannic structure. The vinification was carefully done, with a soft pressing, fermentation in steel and in barrels, followed by bâtonnage. It then aged for about 24 months in barrel, then refined in the bottle, developing that sapidity which prevails over opulence, offering a character marked by time.
This La Pietra Chardonnay is an invitation to slowness. I recommend it with delicate white meats, an oven-baked fish, crustaceans, or creamy risottos. It also pairs very well with vegetable starters or semi-aged cheeses. Serve it at a cool temperature, but not icy, between 12 and 14 °C, to allow it to reveal all its nuances. It is a bottle to be savored quietly, to appreciate the evolution of a great white that has managed to cross the years with grace.
