Comment on noteThe wine
Today I invite you to discover a hidden treasure of the Tuscan Maremma, a wine that whispers the history of its terroir. The Morellino di Scansano Riserva "Le Sentinelle" from the Mantellassi estate is not just a wine, it is an invitation to travel, an immersion into authenticity.
This wine is a vibrant tribute to Scansano, this little-known but characterful appellation, nestled in the province of Grosseto. The Mantellassi estate, with its devotion to preserving the winemaking traditions of the Maremma region, carefully selects the vines from which this Morellino comes. It is Sangiovese, the king grape variety of Tuscany, that dominates here, bringing its structure and personality.
The 2019 vintage of this Riserva is the fruit of respectful winemaking: a fermentation in steel tanks, followed by a prolonged maceration to extract all the richness of the berries. Then comes the aging time, essential for a Riserva: a minimum of 24 months, including 12 in wood, allowing the wine to polish its tannins and refine its bouquet. To the eye, you will discover a deep color, a promise of density. On the nose, "Le Sentinelle" reveals a rich and complex aromatic profile. You will perceive notes of ripe red fruits, such as wild berries, interlaced with soft spices. The wood aging brings a subtle trail of vanilla and leather, adding to its depth. On the palate, this wine reveals itself as robust and balanced, with a pleasant acidity that supports supple and velvety tannins. The finish is long and persistent, leaving an elegant memory.
This Morellino di Scansano Riserva "Le Sentinelle" is a partner of choice for dishes with pronounced flavors. I recommend it with grilled red meats, a game stew or aged cheeses. It will reveal all its complexity served between 18 and 20°C.
This wine from the Mantellassi cellar is a sincere expression of its terroir. It combines power and elegance, offering a deep sensory experience. Whether you choose to enjoy it now or let it age for a few years, it will charm you with its solid structure and harmony. It is an authentic gem that I am delighted to introduce to you.
