Among the well-known wineries in Tuscany, you can start with Antinori nel Chianti Classico, in Bargino, near Florence: the contemporary architecture is part of the visit, with a tasting of the estate's wines. The tour of about 1 h 30 costs around 50 € per person. À Castello Banfi, in the Montalcino region, the tastings notably highlight the Brunello. The public tour lasts about an hour and costs 60 € with a tasting; plan for your car, as the winery is located 4 km from the castle, and book in advance.
On the Bolgheri side, Ornellaia is especially known for its prestigious reds; the guided tour goes through the vineyards and the cellars, but it must be booked in advance and the price depends on the experience chosen. If you want to discover the Maremma, also see Le Mortelle, near Castiglione della Pescaia: the tour of the underground cellar and the tasting last about 1 h 30 and cost 40 €. Availability and times may vary depending on the season. In any case, check the conditions when booking: these estates do not operate like shops where you can drop in freely to taste.
