Brunello

Brunello is the great red wine of Montalcino, just north of the Maremma. It is made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes, aged at least two years in oak barrels and four years in the bottle before being sold. It's not a wine you would drink as an aperitif, but rather a meal wine, powerful, that pairs well with red meats and aged cheeses. If you pass through Montalcino, a tasting is an experience in itself, even if you don't drink wine. It's an opportunity to understand the history and culture of the region.
