What's the « cala di forno » in Tuscany?

Cala di Forno is not a dish nor a wine : it's a small isolated beach in the Maremma, in the Maremma Natural Park, on the territory of Magliano in Toscana. It lies in the hollow of a cove between the promontories of the Uccellina mountains; behind the sand, you will also see remains linked to the history of the place, notably the old grand-ducal customs house. In the Middle Ages, the cove served as a port for the abbey of San Rabano.

To get there, don't count on arriving by car right to the beach: access is on foot via trail A4, a route of about 17,4 km, donné pour 5 hours 30 of walking and of medium to high difficulty. You need to bring water, good shoes and check access conditions with the park: hours, prices and arrangements may vary depending on the season. If your question was really about gastronomy, the name is confusing; for a gourmet lead in the Maremma, look instead at the tortello and steak festival in Arcille.

My opinion: Cala di Forno must be earned like a true escape, not as an improvised detour between two swims; save it for a day when walking is part of the pleasure.
