The place

La longue marche vers cette crique déserte, entre falaises et maquis, offre une côte intacte et une baignade rare : le détour se mérite.

👥 Who it's for: Travelers in search of authenticity, lovers of unspoiled nature and hikers

Cala di Forno: The Wild Pearl of the Maremma Natural Park

Located in the wild heart of the Maremma, Cala di Forno is a natural treasure that embodies the very essence of an unspoiled beach. Forget the crowded shores: here, nature reigns as absolute master, offering an authentic and rejuvenating experience.

Nestled between the green hills of Talamone and Collelungo, this 1.5 km cove is a true sanctuary of tranquility. A crescent of golden sand caressed by a crystal-clear sea, bordered by sculpted dunes and lush Mediterranean vegetation.

An Access That Must Be Earned

The restricted accessibility of Cala di Forno is precisely what preserves its wild charm. Here, there is no direct road or nearby parking. The adventure begins on foot!

  • On foot: An 8 to 10 kilometer hiking trail will lead you to this pearl. Recommended departure from Località Pinottolaio, through the Mediterranean scrubland of the Maremma.
  • By bike: Possible as far as Collelungo, but the last stretch must be done on foot.
  • En bateau : Guided excursions offer a unique maritime perspective.

Tip: Contact the Park Visitor Center for access arrangements and reservations.

A Sanctuary of Biodiversity

Cala di Forno is a living ecosystem where wildlife thrives. Fallow deer, wild boars and foxes find refuge there, while the peregrine falcon majestically overlooks these coasts. Every step reveals the richness of a preserved environment.

History is not left behind: the old customs house of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, built at the end of the 18th century, testifies to the maritime past of this place. A vestige that adds a fascinating dimension to this landscape.

Essential Preparation

The total absence of infrastructure requires meticulous preparation:

  • Complete picnic and plenty of water
  • Sun protection and parasol
  • Hiking shoes and sandals
  • Bags to carry back your waste
  • Camera to capture the wild beauty

A fun detail: Cala di Forno made a notable appearance in the cult Italian film ‘Non ci resta che piangere’, adding to its mythical aura.

More than just a beach, Cala di Forno is an invitation to discovery. A place that must be earned, that must be savored, where every effort is rewarded by timeless beauty. An experience that resonates with the authentic soul of the Tuscan Maremma.

Ten kilometers of walking without a single bar at the end, that's not something you improvise: fill up your water bottle well before setting off and keep an eye on your sandwich, my cousins from the maquis have a keen nose!
