What is the history of Sorano in Tuscany?

Au Moyen Âge, Sorano appartient aux Aldobrandeschi, then move on to the Orsini at the end of the 13the century, through inheritance and marriage alliance.

Its defensive position, above the Lente valley, makes it a contested point between neighboring powers. In the 15the century, the Sienese besieged the stronghold several times. The Orsini then reinforced the fortress, built on an ancient rocca: the major works of the 16the century give the site most of its current appearance, and an inscription indicates the completion of a campaign in 1552. Sorano then came under the control of the Medici and joined the Grand Duchy of Tuscany in the 16the century. As you walk through the center, you can still read this history in the gates, the ramparts and the Fortezza Orsini ; the Etruscan trails nearby tell of a much older period.
