Why avoid restaurants with a large façade in Capalbio?

You don't have to avoid a restaurant in Capalbio just because it has a large façade: it's too weak a clue to judge what's on the plate. On the other hand, a very visible storefront, a tout and an endless menu mixing Maremma specialties, pizza and dishes with no obvious connection can signal a place that relies more on foot traffic than on focused cooking. It's not proof, just a reason to check before sitting down.

Look at the menu displayed and look for a few dishes consistent with the area, such as the pappardelle with wild boar, the tortelli or the acquacotta; ask whether the pasta is homemade and where the wines by the glass come from. Also check the prices, the cover charge and the drinks before ordering: better to avoid surprises than to assume that a terrace or a nice façade justifies the bill. In July and August, booking can spare you from accepting the first available table. In short, choose based on the menu and the staff's answers, not on the size of the sign — a small restaurant isn't automatically good either.

In Capalbio, a large façade can play its charm act; let the menu instead play the second scene before entrusting your appetite to the place.
