What to see near Magliano in Toscana?

Near Magliano, you can combine the ruins of San Bruzio, the fortified village of Magliano in Toscana and the small medieval hamlets of Pereta and Montiano. Start with the walls and alleys of the center, then head to San Bruzio, about 2 km : what remains of the ancient Romanesque church are arches and stretches of wall, in a rural setting, but the visit is quite short. At 8 to 10 km, Pereta can be walked quickly; look especially at its narrow alleys, its gates and its tower. Montiano, about 8 km, is another quiet stop, with remains of fortifications.

For archaeology, the Etruscan necropolis of Santa Maria in Borraccia is also located in the municipal territory; check with the town hall the access conditions before going, as it is not a site with a regularly guaranteed guided tour. If you want to go as far as the coast, Talamone is about 25–30 km by car: you can see the Aldobrandesca fortress and the remains of the village fortifications. For a heritage-focused outing, San Bruzio and Pereta are already enough to fill half a day; the distances are modest, but a car is far more practical than public transport.

The charm of the area is precisely the contrast between the inhabited stones of the villages and the quieter ruins: take the time to change pace, rather than ticking off stops at a run.
