What should you see and do in Vetulonia in Tuscany?

À Vetulonia, first visit the MuVet – Isidoro Falchi archaeological museum, then the remains of the Etruscan city and the monumental tombs of the Via dei Sepolcri. The museum displays objects found in the necropolises, including jewellery and funerary items; admission costs 5 € at the full rate. In October, it is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 h à 18 h. The village is small: also take the time to see the remains of the walls of the Arce in its upper part.

Near the hamlet, you can explore the archaeological areas of Costa Murata, Costia dei Lippi and Poggiarello Renzetti. The Via dei Sepolcri, where you will find in particular the tomb of the Belvedere and that of the Pietrera, is about 2.5 km from the village, in the direction of Grosseto. The open-air sites are gratuits and open from Tuesday to Sunday; until 24 October 2026, the announced hours are 9:45 am–6:30 pm. The tomb of Diavolino II is temporarily closed, so don't count on it for your visit. Allow half a day for the museum and the main remains, and shoes suitable for uneven paths. Check the opening times before setting off, especially if the weather is bad.

In Vetulonia, the stones leave you a few blanks to fill in: less of a 'grand spectacle' than a restored ancient city, but far more fun if you like playing Etruscan detective!
