Our tip
La table d'hôte (agriturismo con ristorazione) is one of the most precious experiences of a stay in the Tuscan countryside: dinner at the owners' long table, with products from the farm or the estate, a terroir cuisine prepared according to the ancestral recipes of the Maremma. The 'acquacotta (peasant soup of wild vegetables and poached egg), the scottiglia (stew of mixed meats in red wine), fresh pasta with wild boar, pecorino from Manciano as a starter — this is true Tuscan cuisine, the kind that doesn't exist in city restaurants.
The farm stays offering a table d'hôte in our selection generally have a half-board formula (room + dinner included, sometimes with wine from their own production) or a table open by reservation. Some only accept their own guests; others open the table to outside visitors on weekends. Our listings specify these arrangements and give examples of typical menus.
The most interesting period for the table d'hôte is autumn: grape harvests (September-October), black truffles (November-March), mushrooms from the Amiata forests, wild boar. Seasonal menus in a Tuscan agriturismo in October-November are among the best tables you will have in Tuscany, with products of a freshness and authenticity impossible to find in a commercial restaurant.
