Sangiovese Grosso

Sangiovese Grosso

Sangiovese Grosso is the grape variety that makes Brunello di Montalcino, a major red wine from Tuscany. In Maremma, you'll also find it under the name Morellino, the main grape of Morellino di Scansano. It's the same family, but Morellino is generally younger, fruitier, and less tannic than Brunello. If you visit a winery here, you'll often hear about these differences, the soils, and the climate that shape the taste. Understanding this means better appreciating the glass you're served and the vineyard landscapes you pass through.
