Day 1 — Wild beach and centuries-old pines

Your Maremma adventure begins on the Collelungo Beach. Imagine three kilometers of pristine sand, dominated by a medieval watchtower. Here, no bar or parasol, just the dunes, the maquis and Tyrrhenian water of perfect transparency. It is the wildest beach in the Maremma Park, accessible only on foot or by shuttle from Alberese. The most unspoiled in Tuscany, with its immaculate sand, its protected dunes and its crystal-clear waters.

Ensuite, le Trail A7 – Mouth of the Ombrone awaits you. A flat walk over 5.5 km that runs along the pine forest before opening onto a wild delta where sky and water merge. Let yourself be surprised by the flamingos and herons that inhabit the wetlands. This easy trail is ideal for birdwatching enthusiasts, a discovery of migratory birds, one of the most beautiful in the Maremma Park.

To end the day, dive under the vault of centuries-old umbrella pines of the Pineta Granducale, planted by the Grand Dukes of Lorraine in the 18th century. The sandy ground cushions each step, the cicadas set the rhythm of the walk and the shade is almost constant. It is a corridor of coolness and silence a stone's throw from the wild beach of Marina di Alberese, an effortless stroll perfect before heading back to the beach.

Day 2 — Meeting the wild soul of the Maremma

Get up at dawn, and not for nothing. In Alberese, a unique spectacle awaits you: the chevaux Maremmani, standing 1.60 m to 1.70 m tall, stand out against the mist of the pastures. These sturdy and enduring mounts, raised in semi-freedom since pre-Roman times, are much more than horses; they are the living tool of the butteri, their sure feet in the marshes and the hills. Seeing these horses work with the riders at dawn is touching the rawest soul of wild Tuscany, a zoogenetic heritage protected since 1980.

Continue this immersion in the heart of the Maremma Park, à la Tenuta di Alberese. This historic state farm stretches over 3,000 hectares of pastures where the butteri work their herds of Maremmana cattle and horses daily. You can take part in guided tours to witness the authentic work of these horsemen, discover the demonstrations of monta da lavoro and come into direct contact with these local breeds in their natural environment. Here, no show, but a living farm, the only place to see the butteri at work, truly.

After this intense morning, the'Agriturismo 'Bilo Hedera' in Alberese welcomes you for a "Tuscan Escape". Imagine a place where time slows down, where every breath is a gulp of pure air imbued with the scents of the Maremma. Upon arriving, you discover a wild Maremma, the one of open landscapes, fields stretching as far as the eye can see and coastal pine groves. This agriturismo blends perfectly into this Maremman refuge, offering you a well-deserved rest in the heart of an authentic Tuscany, far from the crowds.

The horseback ride through the pine grove before the beach will remain our best memory of the summer — total calm, no one around.
