Day 1 — Between colorful market and bewitching vineyards
Your first day in Maremma begins with an authentic immersion at the Scansano market. Every Friday morning, on the central square, winemakers and livestock breeders of the hilly Maremma
Day 2 — Know-how and flavors of Manciano
Your day begins at the Caseificio Manciano, the most honest point of contact with the cheese-making terroir of Maremma. It is here that you can taste the true pecorino of Maremma, aged in cellars by 170 local producers. The cheese cooperative, which sells its products directly and offers tastings and visits, saved Manciano pecorino from anonymity, preferring to keep it under the DOP Toscano banner.
Next, head to the marché de Manciano, which takes place on Saturday in the very heart of the medieval village. Halfway between the tufa lands and the Saturnia thermal baths, you will discover the local olive cooperatives presenting their freshly pressed extra virgin olive oil. You will also find full-bodied maquis honey harvested in the surrounding garrigues, truffle sheep's cheese and artisanal pasta made from ancient legumes. The Festa delle Cantine of Manciano is an authentic and festive immersion in local gastronomy.
To finish, an authentic immersion in the heart of Tuscan flavors awaits you at the Fattoria La Maliosa. You will be welcomed there by a passionate team who will plunge you into the history of the local grape varieties, for a discovery of the secrets of natural wine and olive oil.
The Manciano market is worth the trip for the pecorino alone — we left with more cheese than free suitcase.
