Day 1 — Between a hilltop village and flamingos taking flight
Ciao friends! It's me, Tosco, your favorite little wild boar piglet, and I'm ready to show you my Tuscan Maremma! Today, we've settled into Castiglione della Pescaia. Believe me, it's the perfect spot with its hilltop medieval village overlooking a Blue Flag coastline. Down below, the campsites nestle under centuries-old pine groves, just steps from the waves, and the fishing port… ah, the fishing port! In the evening, a scent of salt and iodine fills the air, a truly unpretentious atmosphere between history and seaside dolce vita. It's the best coastal base in Maremma for alternating wild beaches and the medieval old town with views over the Tyrrhenian Sea.
After settling in nicely, off to trail A7, the mouth of the Ombrone. It's a super easy, flat walk, perfect for me with my little legs! And there, surprise! The flamingos and herons that populate the wetlands… it's magical, a real picture! This 5.5 km trail runs along the pine grove before opening onto a wild delta where sky and water merge. Ideal for families, but above all for us birdwatching enthusiasts! Seeing these migratory birds is an incredible experience, one of the most beautiful trails in the Maremma Park, truly.
The next day, up at the crack of dawn in Alberese! You absolutely have to see this: the Maremmano horses, those giants of 1.60 m to 1.70 m, standing out against the mist of the pastures. They've been raised in semi-freedom since pre-Roman times! It's the raw soul of wild Tuscany revealed when they work with the butteri, the local cowboys. Sturdy, enduring, sure-footed, they're our zoogenetic heritage protected since 1980. A real pride, you know!
Day 2 — Between wild nature and hidden treasures
Ciao friends! It's your favorite little Tosco speaking, and today, I lived a day I'm not about to forget. Imagine: my little nose started twitching at dawn on the Collelungo beach. Three kilometers of pristine sand, just the sound of the waves and the maquis. No parasols spoiling the view, no noisy bars… just the Tyrrhenian Sea, as clear as can be! Believe me, it's the wildest and most unspoiled beach in the whole Maremma Park, a real treasure reached on foot from Alberese. I even spotted the medieval watchtower overlooking it all. A perfect spot for a little wild boar seeking tranquility!
After that dose of nature, my senses were put to the test at Grosseto, at the estate GagiaBlu. Ah, vineyards that tell stories! I was treated to a one-hour sensory immersion, discovering the behind-the-scenes of winemaking. Even me, the curious little cinghialetto, was fascinated by the secrets of this exceptional terroir. Every sip (well, I mostly sniffed!) and every flavor... it's quite an experience, you won't believe it!
And to end this day in style, off to La Valentina del Biozzi in Fonteblanda. A haven in the heart of the Park, nestled in Fonteblanda, in the municipality of Orbetello. From the moment I arrived, the air was filled with the scent of warm earth and the song of cicadas… An atmosphere of absolute serenity. That's the real Tuscany, far from the crowds, where nature reigns supreme. A perfect place for a little wild boar who loves comfort after adventure. See you tomorrow for new escapades!
