Comment on noteOur opinion
If you're looking for a table in Pienza, La Terrazza della Val d'Orcia is first and foremost this: a panoramic view over the Val d'Orcia. It's the number one asset, the thing that makes people talk about it and come back. You're told the view is "worth the trip", and for once, it's not just tourist chatter.
Here, you're served Italian cuisine, without fuss, but with products that speak for themselves. The house is known for its offerings around Pienza pecorino, and that's a really good idea when you're in the area. You'll find, for example, "Il nostro percorso alla scoperta dei pecorini di Pienza", a selection to explore local flavors. They also offer a "Quasi un ‘camembert’", which piques my curiosity, and "La gran selezione", recommended for two, for those who like to share.
The setting is the terrace. It's simple, that's the atmosphere. Calm, serene, perfect for a dinner where you let your gaze wander into the distance. No design frills, the essential is outside, in the landscape. It's a place where the visual experience is as important as what arrives on your plate. And that, when it's done well, is an atmosphere in itself.
You come here for the view, that's certain, but you stay for the quality of the meal. It's not just a restaurant with a beautiful view, it's a place that manages to reconcile the two. If you want an evening where the panorama of the Val d'Orcia accompanies your plate, without one overshadowing the other, this address is for you. It's an appreciated experience, notably for its "romantic" side.
