Where is Sorano?

Sorano is located in the southern Tuscany, in the province of Grosseto, in the heart of inland Maremma, near the border with Lazio. The village is built on a tuff plateau, away from the coast: so it is not a seaside stop, but a landmark in the southern Tuscan countryside. You can locate it among the tuff villages, with Pitigliano and Sovana.

Pitigliano is located about 9 to 10 km by road, i.e. about ten minutes by car depending on the route. Grosseto, the provincial capital, is about 80 km. To reach Sorano and travel between the neighbouring villages, the car is generally the most practical solution; the roads are secondary and winding, so allow more time than in the plains. If you want to locate the village more precisely before preparing your itinerary, here is the page dedicated to Sorano, tuff town in Tuscany.

I wouldn't cram Sorano into a timed stop: keep some time to wander around, tuff villages are not to be savoured at a running pace.
