What is the altitude of Castell'Azzara?

Castell’Azzara is located at an altitude of about 815 meters for the village center. It is therefore a mountain village, on the southern slopes of the Monte Amiata, and not a village located in the Maremma plain. If you are planning a visit, remember above all this figure for the village: the altitude changes depending on where you are in the municipality.

The municipal territory descends toward the Paglia valley and rises up to Monte Civitella, at 1,107 meters. This difference in terrain explains why the surroundings are not all at the same altitude; the figure of 815 meters corresponds to the inhabited center, not to the entire municipality. In practice, expect temperatures that can be cooler than in the plains, especially in the evening: an extra layer can be useful outside of hot days. Don't turn the visit into a race: in a mountain village, quiet detours often have more charm than the straight route.
