What to do in Arcidosso?

À Arcidosso, start by climbing up into the old town center to the Rocca Aldobrandesca : there you can visit the MACO, devoted to Eastern art and culture, as well as the spaces dedicated to medieval history and to David Lazzaretti, the "prophet of the Amiata". Allow about 1 h 30 to 2 h for the castle and a leisurely stroll through the little streets; the MACO charges a fee of 9 € full price and 6 € reduced price, but check opening times and prices before setting off, as openings change according to the season.

In the village, stop by the pieve San Niccolò, recorded as early as 1144, then head down towards San Leonardo, where you can see a canvas by Francesco Vanni. If it is open, also stop at the Madonna delle Grazie : its works by the Sienese school are worth a look, but churches are not always accessible outside of worship hours. The visit can easily be done on foot, but expect cobbled little streets and a few climbs. To extend the day on a different note, the Monte Labbro and the remains linked to Lazzaretti are in the surrounding area; you will then need to get back in the car.
