What is the altitude of Castel del Piano?

Castel del Piano is located at an altitude of about 637 meters. You can also find the rating of 632 mètres for the historic center: the difference comes from the chosen reference point. To find your way, count on around 630 to 640 meters for the village, on the western slope of Mount Amiata. You especially feel this altitude if you arrive from the Maremma coast: the air and temperatures can be different, especially in the evening. The municipality, however, extends well beyond the village: the Prati delle Macinaie and della Contessa sont autour de 1,300 to 1,400 meters, while the summit of Mount Amiata reaches 1 732 mètres. If you plan to drive up, don't rely solely on the altitude of the center to anticipate the conditions up there. And if you visit the village during the Palio di Castel del Piano, keep in mind that the festivities take place in the village, at this altitude of about 637 meters.

The little trap is dressing as if for the village if you then plan to climb toward the meadows: on the Amiata, a jacket can quickly become your best ally!
