No, Ryanair does not refund the ticket and does not grant travel credit if you cannot travel because you are ill, even with a medical certificate. If you have taken out travel insurance, contact the insurer instead: check that the illness is covered and file the claim quickly, with the medical proof and the booking confirmation. A medical certificate alone is not enough to force Ryanair to refund you.
If the flight has not yet departed, you can check in "My bookings" whether a date change is worthwhile: change fees and a fare difference may apply, and a cheaper ticket does not entitle you to a refund of the difference. If you do not travel, limited recovery is sometimes still possible: Ryanair allows you to request a refund of the government taxes only if you actually paid them in the ticket price. The request must be made within one month of the flight date. Finally, if it is Ryanair that cancels the flight, or if the departure is delayed by at least cinq heures and you give up travelling, the refund rules are different: you can then check the options offered for this disruption.
