This 100% Merlot Ricasoli 2020 comes from three parcels of Brolio, with 21 months of ageing in barrels and barriques. Limitation: simple IGT appellation, no distinction or organic mention, at €46.12 per bottle.
Generic Toscana IGT and Bordeaux-style Merlot weigh against it, but the zone is precise: Casalferro, Pecchierino and Sodacci parcels, on the Brolio estate.

Comment on noteThe wine
I invite you to discover a singular expression of Merlot, born in the heart of Chianti Classico. This Casalferro 2020, from the Ricasoli estate, is an unexpected encounter between the power of an international grape variety and the depth of the Tuscan terroir, offering an experience that is both familiar and surprisingly refined.
Casalferro is a wine that takes its name from the eponymous vineyard, but it also draws its substance from the Pecchierino and Sodacci plots, all located on the historic Brolio estate, owned by the Ricasoli family. This estate, one of the oldest and most prestigious in Tuscany, is a true laboratory where innovation blends with respect for tradition. It is here, in this hilly landscape, that Merlot flourishes fully, far from clichés, giving rise to a 100% single-varietal wine.
At first glance, its medium ruby color seduces you with its brilliance. On the nose, you are immediately enveloped by intense aromas of ripe black fruits and juicy plum, enhanced by delicate spicy notes. A balsamic touch enriches this palette, bringing unexpected complexity. On the palate, this Casalferro 2020 reveals a balanced structure. The tannins are present but never aggressive, and the acidity brings a lovely freshness that energizes the whole. The vinification, with fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks followed by 14 to 18 days of maceration, allowed the best of the fruit to be extracted. Its 21 months of aging in tonneaux and barriques, 30% of which are new, gives it an elegant patina without masking the varietal character.
This Casalferro is the ideal companion for your everyday meals as well as your more informal occasions. I recommend it with grilled red meats, a fine herb-roasted pork, or Tuscan charcuterie and medium-aged cheeses. It will also elevate a flavorful first course, such as pasta with ragù. Serve it between 16 and 18°C, and don't hesitate to decant it briefly so it reveals the full extent of its aromas. A large glass will allow you to fully appreciate its olfactory profile. It is a wine that, without artifice, offers you beautiful Tuscan authenticity, an invitation to conviviality and shared pleasure.
