Comment on noteThe wine
Imagine for a moment Tuscany, not the one from postcards, but the one of centuries-old vineyards, where every vine tells a story. The Casalferro 2020 from Ricasoli is one of those stories, a pure Merlot that whispers to you the secrets of an exceptional terroir.
This wine is born in the heart of the Ricasoli estate, where the history of Chianti Classico was written. The Casalferro takes its name from the Vigna Casalferro, a specific lieu-dit within the Brolio property, renowned for its soils that give the Merlot a unique expression. You hold in your hands the fruit of a deeply rooted winemaking tradition, that of one of the oldest estates in Italy.
The Casalferro 2020 is a 100% Merlot, a bold and successful choice for this region. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks between 24 and 27°C, with a maceration of 14 to 18 days, this wine aged patiently. It spent 21 months in tonneaux and barriques, 30% of which were new, which allowed it to develop its complexity and refine its tannins. This meticulous process is the key to its character.
In your glass, you will discover a deep color, a promise of beautiful intensity. On the nose, this Merlot will offer you aromas of ripe red fruits, a signature of the grape variety, but also balsamic and spicy notes, with a touch of vanilla brought by the aging. On the palate, you will feel a remarkable harmony. The tannins are present, assertive, but never aggressive, and the aromatic persistence will invite you to another sip. It is a balanced wine, with beautiful freshness and a structure that does not lack elegance.
This Casalferro 2020 is an ideal companion for convivial meals. I recommend it with red meats, a roast lamb or other arrosti. It will also pair perfectly with aged cheeses. If you have the chance to taste it in a large format, remember to open it a little in advance so that it reveals its full aromatic palette. It is a wine to be shared, one that celebrates moments spent together, without ever overshadowing the flavors on your plate. A true pleasure to discover.
