Comment on noteThe wine
Imagine yourself in the heart of Tuscany, where the sun caresses the vines and every sip tells a story. Today, I'm taking you to discover a wine that particularly touched me: Achelo from La Braccesca, a singular expression of Syrah in Tuscan soil.
This wine was born in the Cortona DOC appellation, a region that, although less famous than its neighbors, holds treasures. La Braccesca, an estate belonging to the prestigious Antinori family, cultivates Syrah there with passion. It is here, on these Tuscan soils, that this Mediterranean-origin grape variety finds a unique expression, far from usual clichés. Achelo is a pure Syrah, 2024 vintage, a testament to know-how that combines tradition and modernity.
From the moment it's opened, its deep ruby color invites you to taste it. On the nose, it's a delicate sensory journey: I first perceive notes of violet, then aromas of blackberry and ripe plum that subtly blend. Touches of pepper, vanilla and licorice complete this harmonious, never overwhelming bouquet. On the palate, it offers a medium-full body, supported by well-present but already polished tannins, and a beautiful acidity that brings freshness and balance. Its persistence is pleasant, leaving a fruity imprint and a slight saltiness. Its vinification begins with destemming-crushing, followed by cold maceration and fermentation of about ten days. Aging extends over about seven months, with 70% of the wine in barrel and 30% in stainless steel tanks, which gives it this complexity without heaviness.
To fully appreciate Achelo, I recommend serving it between 16 and 18 °C. Brief oxygenation before tasting will reveal its full aromatic palette. This wine is an excellent companion for the table. Imagine it alongside a parmigiana, a juicy roast beef or a platter of semi-hard cheeses. It's the perfect wine for those moments of sharing and conviviality, where the simplicity of the dishes highlights the complexity of the wine. A magnum-format bottle, presented in its wooden case, is moreover an invitation to these special moments, and why not, an elegant gift for a lover of authentic wines.
