Comment on noteThe wine
Today I invite you to explore a Chianti Classico Riserva that embodies elegance and tradition. This wine, from a prestigious lineage, whispers the history of Tuscany to you with every sip, without ever falling into exuberance.
This Chianti Classico DOCG Riserva takes root in the emblematic hills of the Chianti Classico region, a territory where Sangiovese reigns supreme. The Marchesi Antinori estate, with its centuries-old history, meticulously selects the best grapes for its Villa Antinori line. The 2023 vintage of this wine is mainly composed of Sangiovese (90%), complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, a blend that gives it its structure and complexity.
Its colour reveals an intense ruby, a promise of great depth. On the nose, you will discover aromas of ripe cherry and violet, interwoven with notes of blood orange, sweet spices, cocoa and a subtle touch of tobacco. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks (28-30°C) with 10 to 14 days of maceration. The ageing, for its part, takes place in wood (large casks and barriques) until spring, shaping polished tannins and balanced acidity. On the palate, it reveals a well-defined structure, beautiful persistence and fruity notes that invite another glass.
This Chianti Classico Riserva is an ideal companion for the authentic flavours of Italian cuisine. Picture it alongside roast lamb, a succulent bistecca alla fiorentina, or to elevate aged cheeses. It also pairs very well with dishes based on mushrooms or light game.
I recommend serving it in a large glass, at a moderate temperature. Brief decanting can help it reveal the full extent of its aromas. Whether you choose to enjoy it young for its liveliness or let it evolve in the cellar, this wine is an invitation to share convivial moments and refined yet informal meals. It is a true expression of Tuscany, to be discovered and savoured.
