Comment on noteOur opinion
If you're looking for a place where fish is truly king, without unnecessary fuss, Oltre il Gusto is an address to know in Castiglione della Pescaia. Here, the local reputation is clear: people come for the freshness of the seafood, and that's what matters.
The house is known for its seafood cuisine, simple and effective. You'll find classics like the "Vongole in brodettò lèggerò con pane aromatizzato", a light broth that showcases the clams, or the "Alici in crostone, ricotta fresca e friarelli saltati", anchovies on croutons with fresh ricotta and sautéed friarelli. The "Tartare del giorno" is also often mentioned, proof that raw product is in the spotlight. Nobody is selling you snake oil, just good fish, well prepared.
The setting is that of an intimate and welcoming restaurant, nestled in the historic center, Via IV Novembre. It's the kind of place where you dine quietly, away from the hustle and bustle, in a friendly atmosphere. No spectacular sea view here, but an old-school fish bistro, where you feel good while enjoying a meal.
If you want to eat fresh fish without breaking the bank, in a place that doesn't pretend to be what it isn't, this table is for you. Guests report good value for money at around €35 per person. It's a solid address for those who prioritize product quality and the simplicity of authentic seafood cuisine, without the artifices sometimes found elsewhere. A safe bet for a fish dinner in Maremma.
