What can you do near Arcidosso?

Near ’Arcidossoyou can visit the village's medieval fortress, walk in the Monte Amiata woods and stop at Santa Fiora, about 9 km. In the center, the Rocca Aldobrandesca houses several small museums; check its opening hours before going, as openings may vary. To get some fresh air without going far, the Monte Amiata Wildlife Park, in the territory of Arcidosso, offers marked trails and animal-watching points. In autumn and winter, it is generally open from Friday to Sunday and on public holidays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; adult admission is listed at 5 €. Call anyway before heading out.

If you want a real walk, look at the routes of the Monte Labbro and the paths through the chestnut groves: the local "chestnut route" trail is about 8.4 km. During harvest season, from mid-September to mid-November, some areas may be reserved for guided visits. At Santa Fiora, you can stroll through the village and then see the Peschiera, an old trout pond turned water garden. Very close by too, Castel del Piano is a few kilometers away for a short stroll. Plan on a car to combine these stops easily; buses exist, but their schedules are not always convenient for improvising.

In my opinion, the best pace is to alternate a small dose of village life with a real breath of forest: Amiata lends itself better to detours than to racing for the greatest number of stops.
