To eat near the summit of the Monte Amiata, start with the Ristorante Le Macinaie, at Prato delle Macinaie, at 1,400 m altitude. There you will find mountain dishes such as acquacotta, pici all'aglione, pasta with porcini mushrooms or wild boar. On the displayed menu, the first courses cost around 10 à 18 €. Book, especially on weekends; lunch is served from 12:30 pm to 2 pm and dinner in a shorter time slot, from 7:45 pm to 8:45 pm.
For a trattoria in a village, look at theOsteria Novecento, in Bagnoli, near Arcidosso: they offer in particular pici, acquacotta, porcini in season and wild boar dishes. It is a convenient option if you are heading down towards the Grosseto side; check the opening hours before leaving, as they may vary depending on the season.
Another address, in Pescina di Seggiano, the Locanda La Scottiglia, about 15 minutes by car from the Vetta. Its specialty is scottiglia, a slow-cooked stew; the menu changes with the seasons, and autumn often brings porcini mushrooms. It serves lunch from 12:30 pm to 2 pm and dinner from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm, but closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays: call before making the detour.
